After dismissing an employee for running his own businesses during hours when he should have been working for our Company. we were subsequently taken to an industrial tribunal. To enable justice to be done we called upon the services of Dick Peake and his colleagues to forensically examine the employees work computer resulting in the identity and evidence of the abuse carried out by the employee during his contracted hours.
As a result of Dick's tenacity we were able to successfully prove that our ex employee had been running several businesses. Had it not been for this expertise we may not have been able to provide a sufficiently accurate timeline outlining the offences.
Dick knew exactly what was needed and soon uncovered the true scale of the wrong-doing. The data was presented in an easy to use format and we got a great result at the court. On 14th February 2002 a serious disturbance took place at Yarl's Wood Detention Centre in Clapham. The detainees set light to one half of the site which included accommodation blocks, administration and recreation areas, all of which burned at an alarming rate. At the time it was feared some of the inmates may have been trapped and died in the fire but subsequent enquiries confirmed that no lives had been lost.
Mr. Peake played a key role in investigating corporate failings within the detention estate at Yarl's Wood which would have been significant in the event that a loss of life had been uncovered by the forensic deconstruction. Mr Peake's work contributed substantially to the Home Office Independent Enquiry designed to prevent any further such failings in the detention estate. His skills as a corporate investigator were tested to the full during the enquiry and he led a small team with enthusiasm and vigour.
